This was a story that I had a hard time getting through. I didn't like the characters at all. It was slow moving and it didn't give details into the character attractions as many of these "Italian heroes" do. There are many romance novels I've read lately that I would re-read because I liked them so much and would recommend them but this isn't one of them.

This was a surprisingly good story about, for a change, mature man and woman who acted like adults. The woman was not a doormat but a feisty woman who could keep the hero on his toes, and the man wasn't a completely insensitive or cruel jerk. Their emotional ups and downs seem realistic, and how they come to resolve their differences was also realistic. A good story overall.
Elsie Carlton had been a trophy wife to Ben Carlton for eight years. He blackmailed her into marrying him in order for her to save her father. Ben wanted Elise as she was the perfect wife and she learned to hide her true feelings behind a smile. She had been forced to leave the man she loved at the age of 18 and marry Ben Carlton. She suffered through her marriage in name only with her philander husband, Ben, who hadn't touched her for the last 4 years of their marriage. Now she is free as Ben has died.

Vincente Farnese is out for revenge. The man that Elise loved and left when she was 18 was his cousin, Angelo. He holds Elise responsible for Angelo's death and he intends to seek retribution for all the pain that she has caused whether intentional or not! He had been seeking to find her for the last 8 years and finally he has hit pay dirt when he entices her husband to Rome for a job, only the louse of a husband croaks before he can get his revenge. He quickly adjusts his scheme and decides that she will get the full retribution of his anger.

I really enjoyed this book. Ms. Gordon did a fine job of sitting up the whole revenge plot. You really felt sorry for both sides, although it is easier to see the heroine's side in these books. The climax doesn't occur right at the end of the story with a quick wrap up either. It happens before, which allows the reader to truly see that both characters love each other. You feel the hurt and heartache that they both go through and know that they are changing. It really helped that it was noted that what they said was their way of striking out to protect their feelings and they really didn't mean it. The HEA is very believable once Vincente and Elise learn to forgive themselves and one another, letting go of all the pain and the tangled web that they had constructed around themselves. It was also nice that Vincente got to see some of the results of his need for revenge. He virtually killed a part of the woman that he fell in love with and has to live with that daily. He needed to help restore that to her so that she could accept his love and give hers in return.

There were lots of lines in there that I really liked but my favorite ones follow as they foreshadow what is to come Elise says, "No we are all weak sometimes, in different ways. What matters is how we act when we're well and feeling strong enough to be cruel. Surely that's how you should really judge someone." Can any man be trusted? Surely you can trust me. I don't know you only when we make love; the best way to know someone. No it's just an illusion. Vincente says, "Life would be impossible without forgiveness and the hardest person to forgive may be ourselves." That is a nice bit of foreshadowing.
Reading this book was like visiting my youth, I used to devour Mills and Boons books when I was a young woman, and they stopped me going mental being on bed rest when pregnant with my daughter.

This book was a good one, we have the usual plot scenario but our heroine was not a damsel in distress, in fact she was courageous to make the trip to Italy after her heart was broken there.
Elise Carlton has spent years as a trophy wife and finally she is free of his blackmail to live her life as she sees fit.

When Vincente Farnese, the handsome Italian businessman, and her husband's boss talks her into going to Italy to finalise the sale of the house her husband owned there, she reluctantly agrees, the sparks fly between them, but Vincente has a hidden agenda - but Cupid has other ideas!

When Elise starts to fall for Vincente's charms and opens up to him, his conscience is at war with his need for revenge.

The author did a good job at creating the relationship and the hidden secrets that would when revealed blow their relationship apart, and I was hooked to the pages to see if they would eventually find their way through the pain of the past and into a future where only their love would matter.
Must read
The Italians Passionate Revenge was an excellent read. This novel was filled with passion from start to finish. A must read for the reader that likes mystery, danger and love.
This was really bad and almost juvenile in the way it is written. The hero is a real knuckle-dragger and the dialog is really awful. The heroine- is constantly made to feel guilty about the death of her ex-boyfriend even though she had no choice but to marry her husband. The hero acts like she is his slave and makes decisions for her and orders her around- all of which she loves him for, bleh. The ending with the near accident caused by the rabbit on the road was just icing on the cake of terrible.
Awesome book!!!!!!
