14 Twisted Tales To EnthrallFlash Fiction Stories edition by Mary Papas Ray Tullett Literature Fiction eBooks
I'm a fan of short stories, although it's a particularly hard genre to write in. For starters, one has only so many pages to hook a reader. Then, characters have to be made relatable and back stories have to be provided in as few as a couple of pages.Papas and Tullett pull this off expertly. What's more, the collaboration offers an interesting juxtaposition. Papas has a more laconic story-telling style, compared to Tullett's richer one. She focuses on relationships; he focuses on characters. And yet, they complement each other, with their stories working together instead of against each other.
If I had to choose, I'd say that Artist and Drive were my favorite stories, as they combined great writing with a lovely twist. But really, all the stories here are great examples of short fiction.

14 Twisted Tales To EnthrallFlash Fiction Stories edition by Mary Papas Ray Tullett Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Exciting, interesting, and intense. Hang on, because you're in for a wild ride! Mary's flash fiction manages to capture the attention, drive it to the brink, and then when you're wanting more, leave you wondering what the hell just happened.
was ok
I need to thank the authors of this book and the others like it for introducing me to flash fiction. I have always loved short stories and now thanks to the authors of this book I love flash fiction. The tales in this book catch the reader in there quick endings that amaze, delight and sometimes terrify readers. Great job by two authors that take the reader on quick thrill rides.
Like Mary Papas' first flash fiction book, Take Off Your Mask, this book did not disappoint. I found myself caught up once again in the emotions of the characters created by both Mary Papas and co-author Ray Tullett.
I liked that the book is divided into sections for each author. They clearly each have their own unique styles that are equally powerful.
Some of my favorite stories were Happy Family, Embarrassment, Goodbye Lunch, The Will, and Mother in Law. I always enjoy the twist at the end of a flash fiction story, and I was not at all expecting it in Artist. Bravo to both writers. I look forward to more.
The first seven stories in this collection are from Mary Papas. They explore emotions and relationships. They're short, but they all pack a decent punch.
The final seven stories are Ray Tullett's contribution to the anthology. They don't share a common theme as Mary's do, but they're just as well written.
The only story of the bunch that I didn't really care for was Ray's "Flight." The story itself was good, up until the last sentence. The open ending kind of ruined it for me. Knowing what happened one way or the other would have made more of an impact with this reader.
f you've never read Flash Fiction before, this is a great book to purchase. The works are divided between two authors who take markedly different approaches to writing. Mary's stories mostly focus on women, while Ray's are primarily about men (but not all!).
From Mary, my favorites were "Goodbye Lunch" and "Mother In Law." Goodbye Lunch takes one of my favorite relationships to write about (siblings, but specifically sisters) and really packs a punch at the end. Mother in Law reminded me of a Shirley Jackson story. I loved it.
From Ray, I enjoyed "Drive" the best. I kept thinking "oh God, what's this guy going to do, is he gonna kill himself or someone else?" but the end genuinely surprised me. And made me smile.
I'd definitely recommend this collection to people who have never read any Flash Fiction. It's a great introduction to the genre. And if you're familiar with it, it's entertaining all the same. Some genuine twists that I didn't see coming, and the writing was quite vivid and descriptive.
I'm new to reading Flash Fiction or Short Stories, even though I'm an avid reader. I was introduced some months ago and found it fascinating that there are gifted and talented writers/authors out there that can pull you into a compelling, intriguing and rich story with so few words. This author collaboration does just that...inviting you to explore the twists and turns of the human element of life...emotion...every story in this collection is steeping with it. Ms. Papas and Mr. Tullet are well suited in this literary partnership, however, after reading their work, I have no doubt they both are phenomenal as "stand-alone" authors.
Each story is different with both authors, yet they maintain that elemental rawness and intensity that makes them a perfect writing match. You can't help but think, dig deep, and ultimately ask yourself, "What would I do in that situation?" More often than not, I found myself "enthralled" in the story only to realize it was ending all too soon.
I highly recommend this book for any and all lovers of fiction. You won't be disappointed. I will definitely be watching for more from Ms. Papas and Mr.Tullett...Bravo! You have a new fan!!!
