I dreamed of traveling the world for many years, but always stopped short because I believed that I didn’t have the money, time or right person to join me. One day I realized that if I kept living this way, then I would never achieve my world travel dreams. With this realization, I took the leap, kept my day job, and went traveling alone. What I discovered was a fantastically curious new life – one where I never know exactly what unbelievable adventure will fall upon me from day-to-day. As for my “World Travel CV”, to date I have traveled to 20+ countries, mostly as a solo traveler through the developing world.

This was really an enjoyable read...it's not only jam-packed with a ton of great tips, tricks, secrets and solid advice, it's also filled with humor and related adventures of the author that correlate to the each point in the book that the author makes. For anyone who's apprehensive about taking their first trip to a developing country, you need to get your hands on this book. Once you finish, you're going to get an enthusiastic urge to "get out there" and finally book that trip you've been dreaming of.The advice in the book is not about where to go or what to see. Instead, it's practical advice on the essentials like packing, traveling on the cheap, getting around, dealing with money, dealing with language barriers, making new friends in foreign countries and most importantly (to me anyway)...avoiding disease and staying out of jail.
The author does a great job at allaying any fears you may have about foreign travel. Her book boils things down and shows you just how easy it can be. She'll also show you that any excuses you're making for not doing so are completely bogus. The book is written in a lighthearted, conversational tone that feels like good advice from a trusted friend. Highly recommended for anyone considering foreign travel.

A friend passed a copy of this along to me. Many years ago I traveled extensively overseas and I have some near term travel plans coming up so I was looking at some updated travel guides. This book isn't a travel guide in the sense that it tells you what places to go and what to see, but it's more of a very practical guide on traveling in general.
From experience I thought all the advice it gave was sound, and for someone who hasn't traveled in third world countries, extremely useful. The guide is written in a very easygoing style and had me laughing in many places. The fact is that oversea travel is not something to be afraid of, and many reasons people give to why they don't go when they want to go are really just excuses that the author takes apart very logically.
While this book won't eliminate your need for a specific location travel guide, it is indispensable for new travelers as an overall reference and how-to to get started on traveling overseas.
Renegade World Travel by Lillian Pierson
If you have a passion to travel to places you have not been like "overseas" this book is the perfect tell all guide. It is filled with tips and tricks on how to save costs, even at some of the most elegant places. It will prepare you and help you be safe. The reason why the author has written such an excellent book to pass along is because of her own travels throughout the world. The thing she discovers has to be passed along to those who want to travel. It's a great guide if you have never been anywhere such as I. In the event that I won the lotto, I would want this book to read before I left and during my travels.
It was interesting to see online sites to help save money for example HelpExchange, workaway.info, and se7en. In one part of the reading the breakdown of the cost by country was so well laid out. For example, If I was to travel overseas, Lillian would list the cost of cab fare and such.
Lillian Pierson did a wonderful job with free things to do and things to be aware of while traveling. She describes the land and its people and includes photos as well. I would buy this book for my relatives because they travel more than I do. It is a great coffee table read as well and a book to give at Christmastime.
